Volunteers from the Kameno municipality underwent a week-long training in fire safety and population protection as part of the activities under the project BSB00026 – Co-Resilience - “Cooperation for building community resilience capacity in forest fires and early warning in the Black Sea Basin”. Professional firefighters - employees of the Second RDFSCP- Burgas, guided the participants to acquire new theoretical knowledge and field skills for managing emergency situations.

In connection with the proximity of the oil refinery and the passage of critical infrastructure, the volunteers received instructions for responding to situations such as spills of various chemical substances. Most of the classes were dedicated to dealing with fires in forest and field terrains, which have become dramatically more frequent throughout the Burgas region this summer.

The experts of the Second RDFSCP-Burgas had prepared two joint field training sessions. Near the Mandra Dam, the volunteers used an external, field water source to develop firefighting actions in a field massif, working with a motor pump, hose lines and turbojets. In the second scenario, they extinguished a forest massif using a Laffette nozzle from a fire truck and supplying a large jet. The classes ended at the Varli Bryag training center, where a scenario was created for extinguishing a fire in a three-story residential building. Extinguishing lines were built for cooling and extinguishing an apartment in a residential building after preliminary reconnaissance of the terrain.

The participants in the practical training classes are members of the Voluntary Formation - Kameno "UK No. 17-01" or wish to become part of it. Currently, it includes 11 people with a tendency to increase to 15. At their disposal are one water carrier and one specialized vehicle. In 2025, the formation repeatedly participated together with the Burgas firefighters in extinguishing large fires such as the one that engulfed the town of Bulgarovo and the villa area in August. During the past summer season, the volunteers from Kameno also had four independent outings to extinguish fires on the territory of the municipality.

This year, Kameno will finally have its own Fire Department building. Its construction and the purchase of a specialized vehicle are also activities of the international Co-Resilience project, funded by the European Union under the Joint Operational Program "Black Sea Basin NEXT". It is being implemented as a continuation of the Co-Prevent project, within the framework of which the Municipality of Kameno built its own system for early warning of floods and monitoring the levels of ravines. The lead organization in the project is again the General Directorate of Forestry of Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, and partners are the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, the Fire Department of the city of Kuyalnik, Odessa region, Ukraine, and the Regional Directorate "Fire Safety and Population Protection" - Burgas.
